Objective
I am not currently looking for a job. I've taken a full time position at Microsoft and I'm loving it. Thanks for checking in on me, though. And good luck filling the positions you've got!
Summary of Skills
Professional Experience
August 1996 to April 1997
IFusion Com Corporation
Seattle, WA
Software Developer
IFusion Com's ArrIve is an Internet push system designed to provide attractive content while minimizing load on the Internet and ISP's. I worked in System Services, which includes all software standing between the ArrIve Client and the Channel Servers. Our deadlines were tight, demanding, and flucuating.
Using C, Visual C++, and MS SQL under Win95 and NT 4.0, I designed and wrote a multi-threaded server to handle storage and retrieval of client, channel, and server information. I wrote a similar server aimed at the collection of statistics on usage and on server performance.
I set up a testbed for other servers and routines within System Services, and participated heavily in debugging software written by other groups within IFusion Com.
I also demoed our product at Comdex.
1990 to August 1996
Hawkins Programming
Seattle, WA
Freelance Database Design, Development, and Support
Using C, FoxPro, DBXL, DOS batch command files, and Novell, I created database management systems for a variety of clients. For example, The Seattle Massage School uses a system I wrote to track client demographics, register students, organize contracts, produce billing statements and transcripts, and coordinate financial aid information.
I was usually the sole developer on my projects,
and most of my clients were computer novices. I am proud of my
ability to offer both patience and respect in these sometimes
trying situations.
1984 to 1990
Retired - Sort Of!
Seattle, WA
Fiction Writer
While working for the phone company, I saved money
toward the goal of taking five years off to see if I could write
fiction. I can and I love it, but the money is scarce and I really
missed technical work. I wrote four science fiction novels, sold
one, and wrote over thirty short stories and novellas.
1976 to 1984
Pacific Northwest Bell (Now US West)
Seattle, WA
Staff Manager, Network Services Supervisor, Corporate
Staff Manager
I worked in a number of areas while with the phone company: Fraud Detection, Network Service Center Support, Network Service Center, Percent Completion, Minicomputer Center Operations, Network Services Budgets, and finally Corporate Budgets.
I was the main PC pioneer within the company, and directly responsible for the first microcomputer purchased by PNB. I trained people throughout the company on their uses, researched available software, and wrote the first software used by Network Services for budget tracking and analysis.
In my last position with PNB, I was responsible for
collecting, analyzing, and reporting on over $30 million in force
and expense budgets.
1973 to 1976
Bell Telephone Laboratories (Now Lucent Technologies)
Holmdel, NJ
Member of Technical Staff
I worked in the Electromechnical Measurement Design
Group, developing methods for getting decent data on older switching
machines. I created algorithms for Last Trunk Usage, a method
of estimating switch load using a microprocessor attached to a
subset of the machinery. I programmed in Fortran and assembly
language.
